All outdoor pursuits can be enjoyed.

The Bois Noir and Monts de la Madeleine form the Montagne Bourbonnaise. There are panoramic views over the volcanoes of the Auvergne and the French Alps. Explore on foot, horse or mountain bike, and in winter try the cross country or downhill skiing.

The rivers of the Sichon, Besbre and Barbenan are famous for their trout fishing, and feed the lakes ponds and rivers so loved of anglers.

Charolais cattle graze peacefully on the green pastures, and wild life roams freely in the forests and hills, wild boar, roe deer, red squirrels, foxes, badgers, weasel, and many species of bird.

The cuisine of the Bourbonnaise Mountains is good country fare, accompanied by the local Cote Roannaise or Cote du Rhone wine. There are many cafes and restaurants in the towns and villages to choose from. The cheeses are Bleu d'Auvergne and St. Nectaire.

The Artisan Boulangeries and Patisseries are first class, offering a never ending assortment of breads, croissants, brioche, gateaux, chocolates, and fruit tarts in season. Myrtilles is the berry of the Montagne Bourbonnaise.
