It has been a pleasure to stay in such a beautiful enchantingly 'French' village, whose inhabitants have been unfailingly friendly and kind. We have particularly enjoyed falling asleep and waking to the sound of the Barbenan.

This really is the middle of nowhere. A glorious escape, delightful little lanes for miles and miles. We enjoyed delicious meals from the sublime to local hearty fare. The volcanic area is a must. Walks around the house are lovely, with fantastic views. Do not miss the Gorges.

What can we say - we had a fabulous time and enjoyed village life. We loved the house and especially the Riverside Arbour

The Besbre Valley is delightful, with chateaux every few miles. A small scale Loire! The XII C Romanesque Church at Chatel Montagne is beautiful. Do take a walk in the mountains to the south.

We loved Vichy, went to a wonderful organ recital and chanced upon the finals of the world water-skiing championship.

We had a lovely week, the friendliest village we have stayed at in France. We had lovely picnics in the mountains, and walks. The children enjoyed playing tennis and playing in the river.

A truly wonderful week of walking, eating and drinking. An amazing part of France to discover.

We have enjoyed the comfort and character of this sensitively restored house and the warmth and friendliness of all the local people, without exception. The peacefulness of the countryside helped us to relax. We particularly appreciated the lack of commercialism since we feel it gave us the chance to experience French life as it really is. Our only real regret is that we are only here for a week.

We have been very happy and comfortable in this sensitively restored old village house. How seldom does one find a house that has not be over revamped. Very hot water and extremely efficient woodburner have been a boon.

After one week we are bronzed, totally refreshed and utterly enchanted with this secret region of France. We didn't meet a single person who wasn't friendly, the French are very kind here and have a wonderful sense of humour. Brilliant tennis court round the corner.
Bullet
Countryside splendid, wonderful network of walks, beds super comfy and all very peaceful.

We did not know the area before, but we can recommend it to anybody looking for a balance between relaxation and interest, from sophisticated Vichy to the delights of the market at Marcigny.

We have very much enjoyed ourselves in this - to us - almost unknown part of France, full of deserted roads and wonderful views. We love especially to visit Romanesque churches and found some beauties.

An essential part of your holiday must be 'cherche du vin'. OK the local Cote Roannaise wine is not the best in France, but its cheap and lively, and when you get home and open a case the memories will come flooding back.

Exquisite days in this rustic haven. Yet we were spoilt by the efficiency of some subtle 20thC innovations, copious hot water, comfortable beds, lovely lighting, the means to cook lovely feasts. The bridges were garlanded with pink and scarlet blossoms, we couldn't believe anything could be so beautiful.

This must be one of the quietest inhabited places ever - thank God.
